A pool of light – A Mythical Healing Story

Often, our pain and wounds are also our sources for healing and the healing of others - A mythical healing story about a pool of light.

Once, by the river of time, sat a little girl. She was dirty and bruised. Tears ran down her cheeks, creating a puddle around her. Some people walked by. But no one saw her. She was invisible.

She cried. And then she cried some more, overcome by feelings of being unworthy and unloved. The feelings of being completely confused and so far away from all her dreams and plans drowned her. The puddle around her grew and grew until she almost drowned within it.

Then. Then she cried so much that she fell asleep.
And in her sleep, little orbs of light danced around her.
And in her sleep, a luminous being came and covered her with a blanket of light.
She slept, and the Sun dried the puddle around her.
When she awoke, she was dressed in a shimmering white dress. So long and sparkling, it trailed behind her.

The evening came, and she was hungry, as in every one of her days. And again, she sat by the river of time and cried. And again, in the morning, she awoke to find the puddle she had created the evening before dried up, and herself covered in a blanket of light.

One morning, she woke up angry, frustrated, and confused.
“Why is it?” she said to the river.
“Why is everything still so bad, and you continue to cover me with this blanket of light?”
The river of time was quiet. Should it remind her why she finds herself crying every night?
Should it reflect to her that many of the choices she made so far in her life, were not aligned with what she asked for, for this lifetime?
It preferred to say nothing than to say the wrong thing.

After some days of being quiet, the river invited one of the girl’s soul friends. A luminous one, also walking on Earth.
And the luminous one sat by the girl, but she did not want to hear a word. So he started weeding around her.
And then, he took some earth and started to build a beautiful earthen pool just by where she sat.
He worked for a few days, and the girl decided to join him. Together they created a pool of earth. Together they enjoyed some fruit growing on the tree just behind the pool. And the girl was no longer hungry. And she was no longer alone. And she wanted to continue building this pool forever.

One morning, the luminous being said the pool was ready. And the girl wondered, how come? And why?
“We still need to fill it, and…”
The luminous one was quiet, just as the river had been. Then after some silent hours, he said,
“You know what to do with this pool. Trust yourself as I trust you.”
The girl was immediately flooded with feelings of unworthiness and not being loved. But the luminous one just looked from her eyes and into the river and back.
She understood. It was all there.
They took their leave.

She sat by the empty pool and cried. And each tear that fell went into the pool. And for each tear that fell into the pool, raindrops of light fell into it too. And the river sent out a big wave to contribute to its waters until the pool was full and sparkling. Not a puddle of mud. But a pool of healing water. Large enough to be shared with others. Large enough to be shared as a healing space.

From that day on, those who walk by the river of time and pass a tree with exceptional fruit of love may notice a pool of sparkling water just behind it. And if they are brave enough to look and come close, they may find a beautiful being sitting next to it. Sometimes reading a story to others, sometimes swimming with them in the sparkling water. To some, she may seem like a lost child, reflecting the pain that so many humans walk with. To others, she may appear as a messenger of healing and love.
