Soul retrieval refers to a process of collecting our own energy. We all wish to walk whole, meaning to walk with all of our life force and all OUR unique qualities – human and energetic, with the intent of having our energy (and not that of others) informs how we walk our lives and the choices we make.
There are many books on soul retrieval, many, which I read, and others that I did not.
Here, I intentionally focus on two books by known Western shamanic teachers.
Two recommended books on soul retrieval:
Mending the Past and Healing the Future with Soul Retrieval
Mending the Past and Healing the Future with Soul Retrieval by Alberto Villoldo. Alberto Villoldo refers to the processes of soul retrieval in many of his books. In this one, he generously outlines a map for retrieving soul parts.
Using Dr. Villoldo’s map, we journey through four chambers:
The chamber of wounds: where we can witness the event or reason that caused our soul fragment-energy quantity to distance itself from us.
The chamber of soul contracts: where we can witness the contract we may have made in the time of our wounding and discover how to rewrite or negotiate it.
The chamber of grace: where we can meet, reembrace, and integrate the soul part back into ourselves.
The chamber of treasures: where additional energy qualities may be offered to us, to empower us, and help us in our journey.
The map offered by Dr. Villoldo is a powerful tool for soul retrieval. Please remember that anything we see in our journeys may be something that actually happened to us at some time in our soul journey, or it may be symbolic, showing itself to us as a specific story or framework that we can more easily understand. Always let go of these stories… and focus on the quality and frequency of the energy, not how it shows itself.
To use this map, you need to know how to go on a shamanic journey, at least at a basic level. This is NOT a map I would use with children or beginning teens, possibly with advanced ones. I have yet to take any of the teens I work with on a journey using this very effective map for soul retrieval. They would need to be very confident and unalarmed by what they may find out about themselves along this journey.
Soul Retrieval: Mending the Fragmented Self
Soul Retrieval: Mending the Fragmented Self by Sandra Ingerman.
Sandra Ingerman’s book’s most significant contribution is in helping us understand this complex connection between soul loss and soul retrieval. She refers to how her perception of soul loss is based not only on traditional shamanic perceptions but is also integrated with contemporary psychological understandings (which is true for most of the information available on soul retrieval today). The book includes many stories and examples of her work with clients, which hold great teachings for those of us mediating the union of soul fragments back to their homes: our clients.
There is a lot of condensed information about soul retrieval on the web, as well as audio-guided journeys. Please be your own healer and self-reference to what resonates for you, what feels professional, and what does not.
