Energy flow, high sensitivity, and intuition
Intuition is a connection within, an ability to tune in and know what is right for me, and in our walk with the children in our lives, a quality we wish to help them cultivate.
If you are among the many parents today, mothers, fathers, possibly a caring grandparent, understanding, not necessarily by logic, but from the heart, that it’s important that the children in your life are able to listen to and trust their intuition, you are not alone.
In this episode/blog, I wish to dive into an element that we so often skip in our walk with our children, any child, and more so with highly sensitive children, intuitive children, and spiritually aware children and teens…
Subtle energy and its flow.
Highly sensitive children are more sensitive to subtle energies.
Simplified, in referring to subtle energies, I am generalizing, referring to our energy field, energy communication, the energy of the environment around us, and energy flow. These are not all the same, but please bear with me with this generalization for the means of exploring the connection between subtle energies and high sensitivity and intuition, which are also not the same.
A highly sensitive child is more prone to be affected by subtle energies.
For example, whether the energy of a space they enter is clean or not, or how dense it is. This is partially why many highly sensitive humans and four-legged friends flourish in nature. A highly sensitive child is affected by the quality of the subtle energy around them, outside of them. As part of their highly sensitive gifts, they sense more of what’s going on around, including layers that someone who is not as sensitive as they are won’t notice.
A highly intuitive child is more attentive not to the energies around them, but to the flow of their own energy. Their ability to tune in is connected to their own energy flow. When flowing, they are able to tune in, listen, and know.
But my child is both highly sensitive and highly intuitive…
Indeed, many children are. Please know, though, that not all walk with both qualities. These are qualities, gifts, that often come together, but not always.
Most children are born into our arms or our hearts with their energy flowing.
Some, due to various pregnancy factors, may need some early support to balance and regain their own flow. For many children, this can happen naturally, while others may need delicate interventions to restore their flow after the effort of pushing their way through the birth canal.
From the moment a child is born, their own energetic flow is part of what informs them, their development, their understanding of what is safe and what is not.
That said, we must bring attention to how we raise them.
Are we attentive to our child’s communication, energetic communication, and truth?
Or are we trying to sculpt them to fit our lives, our idea of what a good child should be, or our busy schedules?
Please read this as an invitation to observe both how we grew up and how much stress is placed on our children’s energetic flow from an early age.
When they know when they wish to eat or sleep or need a diaper change, or who they feel comfortable around and who they would rather not hold them, and the adults around them communicate they know better, even if merely by not responding immediately, which is often literally impossible.
When a child or an adult’s energy is flowing, that child can tune in to their inner wisdom.
If a child is overwhelmed, as many highly sensitive children are, and for many reasons, their energy contracts.
When one’s energy is contracted, listening within is harder, we shift from flow into protection, not in awareness, but as a means of survival.
Let’s recap this.
A highly sensitive child reactive to energies around them will often contract.
A highly intuitive child, when in flow, can listen to what they know for themselves.
As a side comment, if your child is also highly empathic, it gets a bit complicated. I will try to create a dedicated episode for just that sometime soon.
Take away: Energy flow matters.
As children learn how their body works, what feels comfortable and what doesn’t, they also need to learn what it feels like when their energy is flowing and when it isn’t.
This learning may mean a reflection of their ability to know, be intuitive, and be calm when their energy is flowing, woven with an ability to recognize when they are overwhelmed, combined with tools that can help them cleanse, balance, ground, and nourish their own energy.
If you are a mother to little ones, start early and help them using the many tools available today to continuously nourish and cultivate trust in what they know for themselves.
If you are a mother to growing ones, start with cultivating your own sense of when you are in flow and when not as much.
Work with your breath. Every time you notice you are not in flow, just take a deep, nourishing, intentional breath. If you need just a bit of tuning, one breath will do it. If you need more, it will be a needed self-communication of intention. Once you feel you have a hold of how it feels when your energy flows, share your wisdom with your growing ones.
They chose you as their human guide in this lifetime.
But before teaching something, be that something. It is more than modeling. It is your energy restoring its flow, communicating to their energy that same invitation.
So next time you wish to cultivate your child’s intuition, if they are also highly sensitive, then after you have reduced the noise that overwhelms them, focus on the flow of your energy, their energy, and the energy of your space.
I don’t think there is any data on the intuitive abilities of humans. I will risk saying that my belief is that every human being is able to have their energy flow, and if indeed, then we are all born intuitive.
Stepping into Spiritually Aware Parenting
Walking by highly sensitive children who are also highly intuitive is, in my terms, walking as a spiritually aware parent.
A spiritually aware parent is not someone who is woo-woo, although others can see it that way. It is someone who grows alongside their children as part of a shared journey, weaving in the unseen, the unknown, the energy, the more that we all are, and the tools and languages that come in to nurture their children in being who they truly are.
If this path meets your heart, I invite you to explore a free download, a roadmap into spiritually aware parenting. You can find the link in the description.
