The healing power of imagination: A letter to myself

Our imagination is a powerful healing tool, we can all use. A letter to myself, of how and when I could have used it.
The healing power of imagination. A letter to myself

Dear Me,

Imagination holds a promise of healing.

Our imagination is a little more than what many of us think it is. When used with an open heart and the interweaving of our spiritual self, it becomes a powerful healing tool.

For me, it is one of the most powerful healing tools I know. So many times, when we were still a child, we were told, “your imagination is too elaborate,” often with a smile. A slightly dismissive smile or laugh.

Remember our fourth-grade teacher. We would show her our assignment, and she would say it’s excellent, but at the same time, she would pat our redhead and comment about our imagination. Every time, we shrank. At first, being very picky with whom we would share the creative stories that developed in our mind. And then, we stopped telling these stories even to ourselves. Thinking “I have an exaggerated imagination…” and quashing anything that tried to pop out.

Imagination is so much more than the creation of stories or ideas in our minds. It is a powerful healing tool.

Remember that? And now, please play along, dear me, and take a deep breath. And then, when you exhale, blow that limiting belief out of your system. Your imagination was always just fine. Normal and healthy. A gateway to that which is beyond the ordinary.

The criticism and dismissal were carried and passed to you by those who have lost the ability to imagine and fly themselves. They all felt it was with great love that they told you to become realistic. They taught you what they were taught. Good intentions do not make the other right.

Imagination is so much more than the creation of stories or ideas in our minds.

To what is it a gateway, you probably wonder… Well, as soon as you allow yourself to let go of the story’s logic, you’ll find the plot flies. It develops in ways you would not think of before.  Why? It’s the universe co-creating the story or idea with you. Amazing, isn’t it?

Another blessing to our imagination that left me in awe when I first discovered it: using our imagination, dreaming, and vision, we can cross time and space and bring healing.

I used this method about three and a half years after the crash. Many months forward to you.

I would close my eyes and imagine myself playing with the girls during those days when I was, like you, in the hospital. I read them a story. I saw myself picking them up from daycare, sitting by the dining table with them, feeding them, taking a walk, or playing with them, together with Ginger, our dog. I would sit and imagine myself there in those times when I was not—hugging, loving, and present.

Imagine healing and healing will begin its motion.

Three days after I started doing this, we got a call from their teacher. She had no idea what I was doing. She called to share that the twins are behaving completely differently. That they are much happier and energetic than she had ever seen them before.

Could this have been the effect of imagining myself with them in those times when I was not? The answer to this is a resounding YES! And how I wish I would have known this, when I was like you, still very unable… It would have been such a great use of my daydreaming time and could have brought needed healing much, much earlier.

Well, what was, was… but I am sharing this with you… maybe you will manage to do this earlier—it is the magic of traveling beyond time.

Love you,

Me

While writing these Notes (I wish) I Wrote to Myself, I found myself bringing the teachings offered by my parenting journey and Near Death Experience into writing. The result is The Promise We Made: Three Universal Soul Promises We Made to Our Children 🙂
